Establish communications to the controller at default settings

3. Solution details

3.1 Physical Connections

  1. Check front panel switch settings
    1. S1 and S2 OFF (to the left)
  2. Wire 24Vdc as per manual and apply power
    1. Main LED goes from Red to flashing yellow to
  3. Physically disconnect the Slicebus io from the controller
  4. Physically disconnect the EtherCAT cable from port X1

3.2 Factory Default

  1. If the controller is new in box then these following steps are not required
  2. Reset controller to factory default if required. Hold Operating Mode Switch at position MR during power up and release when main LED turns orange (yellow)
    1. Programming and all settings are deleted. Firmware is unchanged.
    2. LED will be orange (yellow) when Operating Mode Switch is at position ST and green at position RN
  3. Clear firmware if required. Hold Operating Mode Switch at position MR during power up for 30+ seconds
    1. Firmware reverts to factory setting. Programming and all settings are deleted.

3.3 Communication between PC and Controller

  1. Set IP address of computer NIC to 192.168.1.2 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    1. Win-R > ncpa.cpl > open connection > TCP/IPv4 > Properties
  2. Connect Ethernet cable between port ETH-X3 and computer NIC
  3. Point url to controller ip address 192.168.1.1
    1. Accept any warnings / advanced and proceed even if browser indicates unsafe.
  4. Enter the Username admin and Password listed on front panel
    1. Result: Web UI (WBM) appears in the browser

3.4 Firmware

  1. Determine the current firmware level
  2. Determine the required firmware level
    1. Use the newest firmware if this is a new application
    2. Match to existing controller firmware level if this is replacement or OEM machine
  3. Acquire the required firmware file from www.yaskawa.com
    1. File extension *.raucb and file size > 150MB
  4. Update the firmware by Administration> Firmware Update > Browse > Start Update
    1. Expect automatic reboot after 1 minute followed by communication error
    2. Expect WBM login prompt after 2 minutes

3.5 iCube Project Communication

  1. Start new iCube Engineer project without template
  2. Set the project IP address range. Project > Settings > IP subnet > IP range. Start IP address 192.168.1.1. End IP address 192.168.1.1
  3. Add controller to project. Select Device > Add selected device to project (button)
    1. Possible prompt to Enter a new password for safety-related access
  4. If the controller has safety, define safety password such as ‘yaskawa1’ when prompted
  5. Verify Operating Mode Switch at position RN (up)
  6. Download empty project. PLANT > Project > right click controller in the tree > write and start project
    1. Prompt to save project.
  7. Enter project filename or accept suggested name.
    1. Prompt to enter user name and password
  8. Enter the Username admin and Password listed on front panel
    1. Status LED solid green


The controller is now running an empty project with the target firmware and is communicating to the PC.
